The idea behind the mission

You give us three words and a story.
We give them a home.

Poems for Patriots is being built to help military service members, veterans, and their families share love, gratitude, encouragement, and remembrance through original, personalized poetry.

Joy. Hope. Connection.
A glimpse of the experience

The miles may measure distance,
but never what the heart can hold.
For home is more than where we stand,
and love is always coming home.

Three submitted words • One original poem

The proposed experience

How a poem finds its person.

The process begins with something personal and ends with something tangible. Here is how we envision it working once the program is established and funded.

01

Share three words and a story.

A requester chooses three meaningful words and shares memories, feelings, or a personal story about the intended recipient. The words might come from a spouse, a friend, a family member, or the recipient themselves.

A personal starting point
02

A poet turns them into something original.

A participating poet draws inspiration from that story and writes a one-of-a-kind poem. All three supplied words appear in the finished poem and are underlined. The voice, structure, imagery, and style remain the poet's own.

A real artist, not a template
03

The poem becomes a keepsake.

We plan to present each 4 × 6-inch poem on vintage-style paper, enclosed in our signature royal-blue and gold envelope. The finished piece will be prepared for mailing to its intended recipient.

Something to hold onto
04

Community support makes it possible.

Individual and business sponsorships are intended to help eligible military-connected recipients receive personalized poetry while compensating the poets who create it. Eligibility, pricing, delivery options, and fulfillment policies will be finalized before launch.

Connection with purpose
Two ways to take part

One mission. Two different gifts.

When the service opens, we envision two straightforward ways to participate. Neither is available for submission or checkout today.

Future path 01

Request a Poem

Tell us whom the poem is for. Share three words, a personal story, and the message you hope to express. Eligible requests may be fulfilled through program sponsorship; direct-request and payment options are still being designed.

Not accepting requests yet. Please do not send private recipient stories by email during development.

Future path 02

Sponsor a Poem

Help make an original poem possible for someone in the military community. Sponsorships are intended to support the creative work, materials, mailing, and operation of the program.

Not accepting sponsorship payments or donations yet. Any future charitable-deduction information will reflect the organization's actual legal status.

Illustrative example, not a completed request
The art behind the gift

Consistent in purpose.
Unique in expression.

Every poem will begin with the recipient's story and three words. Every poet will follow the same few requirements, while having freedom to write in their own voice.

  1. Use the paper and envelope provided by the program.
  2. Include all three submitted words.
  3. Underline those three words in the poem.
  4. Use the recipient's story as inspiration.

Everything else is up to the poet's imagination. Poems for Patriots plans to start with founder-led fulfillment and expand to additional writers as demand and funding allow.

Where we are today

We're building the foundation first.

Poems for Patriots is currently a proposed program of The 3 Word Project, an umbrella nonprofit initiative in development. We're preparing the organizational structure, meeting future partners, and shaping a process we can reliably deliver.

We are not yet fulfilling program poem requests, accepting sponsorship payments, or claiming tax-exempt charitable status. Before launch, our governing board will review the operational policies, compensation, eligibility, and service options.

Frequently asked questions

A few things worth knowing.

The goal is to make each step clear before anyone entrusts us with their story or financial support.

Can I request or sponsor a poem today?

Not yet. We are in the founding and planning stage. The site describes our proposed experience so prospective participants and founding allies can understand what we're working toward.

Who is this program intended to serve?

Military service members, veterans, and their families. The future board will determine eligibility details, application procedures, and how sponsored requests are prioritized.

Do the three words have to appear in the poem?

Yes. Under our proposed creative requirements, each word will appear in the poem and be visibly underlined. The poet otherwise has wide creative freedom.

Will my story or poem be shared publicly?

Our intention is to treat stories and completed poems as private by default. Any public sharing or promotional use would require appropriate permission under a future privacy and consent policy.

Can poems be sent overseas?

We hope to support eligible military-connected recipients in many locations, but international mailing availability, restrictions, postage, and delivery expectations will be confirmed before offering those options.

Are sponsorship payments tax-deductible?

No tax-deductibility claim is being made. We are not accepting sponsorship payments or charitable donations through this page. Any future tax information will be based on the organization's actual legal status and applicable requirements.
